Categories: Uncategorized

Brayden Miles experienced the event of a lifetime this September when he was invited to compete in the PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee!  The PURE Insurance Championship is a premier event intended to showcases the best participants in The First Tee network.  An official PGA TOUR Champions event at Pebble Beach Golf Links on the Monterey Peninsula, the tournament pairs one junior with a PGA TOUR Champions player and two amateurs.  To be selected, juniors are measured in both golf proficiency and life skills knowledge.

Brayden was paired with pro Sandy Lyle who has won two major championships during his career.  Lyle spent 167 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking from its introduction, in 1986, until 1989. Lyle was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in May 2012.

The PURE Insurance Championship is the only event of its kind in which 81 junior golfers from The First Tee are teamed with 81 PGA TOUR Champions players and 162 amateurs during an official PGA TOUR Champions tournament. The participants, which represent 22 states, were selected based on playing ability and application of the Nine Core Values and life skills learned through their involvement with The First Tee’s programs.

This opportunity comes to Brayden as he has participated in The First Tee of The Inland Northwest programs for the last seven(7) years. Brayden is a sophomore at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Washington, and along with playing for the Central Valley High golf team Brayden also competes in the Washington Junior Golf Association, Idaho Junior Golf Association, Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Association, and

American Junior Golf Association.

When asked what his selection for the tournament means to him, Brayden said, “It is a real honor to be the first student selected from the Inland Northwest Chapter to represent the kids of The First Tee!”

The First Tee of The Inland Northwest is one of 150 chapters around the country and world introducing the sport of golf and The First Tee’s Nine Core Values to kids, positively impacting their lives. Serving the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas since 2010, more than 15,000 kids have been impacted through chapter programs and The First Tee National School Program, which is in 20 Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area elementary schools. The organization is engaging the next generation of fans, growing and diversifying the sport and positively impacting millions of kids along the way through The First Tee Nine Core Values™: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.
